Back to Monday's Routine
In Schuettler's first match of the day, he lost his first round singles match to wildcard Tommy Haas in three sets, 63 16 64. In the afternoon, however, Schuettler and Youzhny scored a three set win of their own by defeating Clement and Grosjean 67(4) 64 62.
No updates on the event's site yet on interviews or pictures, will check the news links on Tuesday. Schuettler and Youzhny do not play on Llodra and Santoro on Tuesday, though Youzhny has a singles that afternoon, I believe against Massu.
Sunday 1 August
Ohio, the Swing State
More hardcourt action this week with the Olympic Games just around the corner, Rainer Schuettler will have two matches on Monday at the Western and Southern Financial Group event in Cincinnati.
In singles, Schuettler - again the 8th seed, will face wildcard Tommy Haas on Center Court as the second match of the day. Play begins at 11am.
Schuettler has faced Haas four times, winning all of the encounters. Most recently they faced off in Munich on clay 64 26 64; previously 2001 Sydney Hard 76(7) 76(10); 2000 US Open Hard 76(5) 62 64; 2000 Stuttgart Outdoor Clay 75 21. This year Haas has won both Los Angeles and Houston, was a quarterfinalist at Halle and a doubles semifinalist in Memphis (w/ Weiner).
Later, on Court 3, Schuettler will pair up with Mikhail Youzhny for doubles against Arnaud Clement and Sebastien Grosjean, not to start before 5:30pm. Grosjean and Clement won TMS Indian Wells this year, while Sebastien teamed with Escude for a semifinals appearance at Doha and Clement was a finalist at Adelaide with Llodra and a semifinalist at Rotterdam with Robredo. The winner faces 4th seeded Llodra and Santoro who received a first round bye.
I am looking forward to hearing anything about Ohio that isn't politically related, even if it is only for a week.
