Why Are We Here?
"Sometimes you have a dream and you're able to reach it"
I am proud to announce that this is the first
Rainer Schuettler Fan Site!
Here is the place to find info, results, photos and my writings regarding Rainer Schuettler (aka Rainer Schüttler). Schuettler is an ATP player who has been steadily rising in the rankings for years, proving that a journeyman player can make it to the Top Ten. This 2003 season has been the best of Rainer's career, and I hope that as his on-court accomplishments continue to accumulate, he'll finally get some well-deserved recognition in the media and gain more fans.
I am a fan of sport, and in this falls a longtime love for tennis... in the past few years I've become a big fan of Schuettler's. In doing so, I wanted to see his results, read some post-match quotes, maybe see a photo or two - but this was next to impossible to find, especially here in the US. Basically, the American media doesn't know he exists and since I can't read/speak German (my extremely German great-grandparents {Karl and Emma T.} and grandfather {Wm. Herman T.} would be so proud), I decided to champion the cause and put something together myself.
As a result, I am going to follow Rainer and his tennis accomplishments on this site. I have never made a website/webpage before, so I don't know how it will go, but I will try my best... all because this extremely hard worker and quality individual doesn't deserve to languish in anonymity. I will give credit to all the places where I find information, and I will also note where things are of my own opinion.
When you hear about Rainer, there is no sense of awe about a blistering serve or rifling forehand exploding from some physical giant of a player. However, a great return of serve, smart and precise shot selection, a solid baseline game, and the ability and desire to run down every single point all combine to make Schuettler a tennis presence. Known on the tour as one of, if not the most fit player, Rainer is also an extremely modest and thoughtful person. In all the press conferences I've heard or read transcripts of, he has never put down an opponent, looked past the next round, or made excuses.
I guess in many ways he is the classic underdog, and who doesn't end up rooting for the underdog?
Be sure to visit his own official site at www.rainer-schuettler.de, it is full of numerous outstanding features, including updates from Rainer himself.
Feedback is encouraged and I hope that all his German fans, the growing number of English fans - and any new ones can enjoy this site in addition to the great material Rainer's own site provides (webmastered by Marcel Brindöpke).
I am sure that other tennis or sports related items will trickle in here from time to time, for it's something we all enjoy, but in the end...
GO RAINER!!
